Creating Tailored Pathways to Meet Individual Needs
DelCampo Academy is a specialized division within DelCampo School that provides a variety of comprehensive programs and services for exceptional students, those with learning difficulties and gifted education alike.
Here, learning styles and differences are recognized and celebrated.
With a 3:1 Teacher Student ratio, service options are available to support specific learning needs. The Academy Signature Program, is a full-day immersion program where general education teachers, special educators, and specific area therapists work in an integrated manner within the school day to provide the necessary support and services . The pull-out option allows a student to only receive the specific support in 1 subject area, while remaining in the general education DCS classroom.
A multidisciplinary team assesses each child and develops the academic plans, therapeutic sessions, and appropriate interventions, to prepare successful independent learners in the most appropriate setting.
Learning Difficulties
DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION
Individual student learning plans that reflect their strengths, difficulties, needs and levels, are crafted by special education teachers into meaningful learning activities to meet the desired skills, goals and objectives.
REMEDIAL ACADEMIC INSTRUCTION
Specific research based instruction addresses the specific learning disability in one or more areas, including:
Dyslexia (reading fluency and writing skills)
Dysgraphia (written and oral language),
Dyscalculia (number sense and operations).
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY SUPPORT
Individual therapy sessions and adapted PE classes increase student precision in coordination and balance of movements, reinforce brain laterality preferences, and enhance gross and fine motor skills.
EDUCATIONAL THERAPIES
Prerequisite skills for learning, such as attention, memory, visual perception, logical reasoning, planning and organizing skills, are taught with therapies within the school day. Acquired skills are then transferred to the classroom.
SOCIAL EMOTIONAL TRAINING
Focuses on the development and fostering of a healthy social emotional child, through social skills training, counseling sessions, conflict resolution coaching, class meetings, and mentoring sessions.
Enrichment Opportunities
GIFTED EDUCATION
Rooted in the Three Ring Concept of Giftedness (Renzulli, 2020) methodology, DelCampo Academy identifies participants who demonstrate above average academic ability, high levels of creativity, and superior task commitment with their own learning process, as candidates to join the Gifted Program.
Enriched learning environments in Math, Science, and English classes are available within the Program for qualified 1st-8th graders. Participants apply critical thinking to innovate and conceive novel solutions to problems by researching, interviewing and consulting with notable professionals in that field.
